NCAA Proposal No. 2010-88 PLAYING AND PRACTICE SEASONS -- NONCHAMPIONSHIP SEGMENT -- CROSS COUNTRY, FIELD HOCKEY, WOMEN'S LACROSSE, SOCCER, SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL -- TWO DATES OF COMPETITION -- ONE AWAY-FROM-HOME DATE • Specific sports. • Men's and women's volleyball included. • Institution is limited to two dates of competition during the nonchampionship segment, of which only one date may be an away-from-home date of competition. • Effective Date: August 1, 2011
Proposal No. 2010-96 PLAYING AND PRACTICE SEASONS -- WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL -- PRESEASON PRACTICE -- 21 UNITS To reduce, from 29 to 21, the number of units used to determine the start of preseason practice. Effective Date: August 1, 2011

Division I Recruiting Model Review • Balance early recruitment and need to develop coach/prospective student-athlete relationship. • Feedback sought. • Issues such as: • Communications/technology. • Early offers of aid. • Institutional responsibilities in monitoring recruiting activities. • Third party influences. • Three models for review.
Models • Three models. • Restrictive. • Moderate (opt-in). • Open (opt-out).
Models • Include four mains areas: • Evaluations (academic and athletics). • Recruiting person days, recruiting calendars. • Communications. • Use of technology. • Campus visits. • Tryouts. • Timing. • Offers of aid.
Enforcement/Infractions/Ethical Responsibility • Enforcement program created in 1952. • Designed to be: • Cooperative undertaking involving member institutions and conferences working together through the NCAA for an improved administration of intercollegiate athletics. • Allegations of rules violations are referred to the Association's investigative staff. • A preliminary investigation is initiated to determine if an official inquiry is warranted and whether a secondary or major violation has occurred.
Reporting Secondary Violations If facts can be verified by other sources, the name of the person who provided the information does not have to be released.
