    1. Principles of Coordination Chemistry The study of metalloproteins is made easier due to the presence and properties of the metal itself. Most metal ion complexes are colored. Much of the chemistry of the transition metals results from the coordination of various ligands to the metal’s d-orbitals. In Crystal Field Theory this interaction can be viewed as being purely ionic.
