Sometimes what we have in our heads are ideas… Beef and milk come from cows!
The ideas in our heads don’t always agree! Football is boring I love football!
We use the pictures (or models) in our heads to make sense of the world. • Human systems exist everywhere. For example: • Football teams use different formation systems to try to win games. • Cooking is a system of combining different foods in different ways to make something tasty. • Think of a hobby or something you like to do and try to think about the systems used. Share your ideas with the person next to you.
At school you learn lots of systems for doing things • History is a system for making sense of the past • Maths is a system for making sense of numbers • What are science, art, geography and all the other subjects systems for?
What about RE? • In RE we try to look at the systems different people have for making sense of the world. • This is particularly relevant to big questions about God and stuff, but also applies to simple day-to-day things like diet and relationships.
