First mirror studies in the main chamber • Two mirrors installed in MiMES have been exposed in outboard main chamber to 20 high density L-mode discharges for a total of about 60 s • Upon extraction, no visible deposition was observed on the mirror viewing the divertor, while the toroidally viewing mirror exhibited visible deposits, even though it was further away from the plasma • Long-term diagnostic mirror samples have been installed in mid-plane outboard port of DIII-D. Mirror samples are installed in two holders simulating the mirror layout of the ITER LIDAR diagnostic. Mirror with toroidal view (Rh-coated) Mirror with divertor view (SC Mo) MiMES Visible deposits No deposits
Dust studies in DIII-D • DiMES TV and tangential divertor TVs were used to monitor dust levels during the first day of the plasma startup on Nov 30 • As previously observed during the CY2007 startup, dust levels were significantly elevated compared to normal operations • An injection of diamond dust of finely calibrated size between 2-4 m was performed in the lower divertor of DIII-D during the plasma startup
