  1. Title: The Kingdom Inhabited By Mature Citizens With Childlike Simplicity

  2. Text: Mark 10:13-16, “And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." 16 And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.”

  3. A. Jesus was displeased with His disciples in three particular cases: 1. When they lacked faith."Why are you afraid, you men of little faith!" (Matt. 8:26)."You men of little faith!" (Matt. 16:8).

  4. 1. When they lacked faith."Why are you afraid, you men of little faith!" (Matt. 8:26)."You men of little faith!" (Matt. 16:8). 2. When they had a dispute which one of them is greater.“Who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.” (Luke 22:27).

  5. 1. When they lacked faith."Why are you afraid, you men of little faith!" (Matt. 8:26)."You men of little faith!" (Matt. 16:8). 2. When they had a dispute which one of them is greater“Who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.” (Luke 22:27). 3. When they wanted to stop the little children to come to Him and be touched by Him. "The disciples rebuked those that brought them"(v. 13). "But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased... " (v. 14).

  6. B. The biblical references about children are a blend of powerful innocence and frustrating immaturity. Paul says, "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me" (1Cor. 13:11).

  7. C. What quality of the child Jesus connects the Kingdom of God to?1. He does not connect it to the quality of the child's intellectual development.

  8. C. What quality of the child Jesus connects the Kingdom of God to?1. He does not connect it to the quality of the child's intellectual development.2. He does not connect it to the child's experience development.

  9. C. What quality of the child Jesus connects the Kingdom of God to?1. He does not connect it to the quality of the child's intellectual development. 2. He does not connect it to the child's experience development. 3. Jesus linked the concept of the Kingdom of God with the quality of the child to receive - "Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as this little child ....” (v. 16).

  10. D. The term “the Kingdom of God" involves authority of a ruler, activity of ruling, and the area of rule. Thus, the "Kingdom of God" is a dynamic concept that refers to God's sovereign activity of ruling over His creation - over you and over me included.

  14. "As the flower in the garden stretches toward the light of the sun, so there is in the child a mysterious inclination toward the eternal light. Have you never noticed this mysterious thing, that when you tell the smallest child about God, it never asks with strangeness and wonder: 'What or who is God? I have never seen him!' - but listens with shining face to the words as if they were soft, loving sounds from the land of home? Or when you teach a child to fold its little hands in prayer, that the child does this as if it were a natural thing to do, as if there were opening for it - that world of which it has been dreaming with longing or anticipation? Or tell them, these little ones, the stories of the Savior, show them the pictures with scenes and personages of the Bible - how their pure eyes shine, how the little hearts beat!"
