COSP implementation in CAM/CCSM Example of comparisons that COSP will enable: Tropical Warm Pool CAM (left) and CloudSat-observed (right) reflectivity histograms Jennifer E. Kay (jenkay@ucar.edu), NCAR CFMIP/COSP implementation contact with help/advice from Brian Eaton, John Truesdale, Andrew Gettelman (NCAR) Yuying Zhang, Steve Klein, Jim Boyle (LLNL) below CloudSat detection threshold below CloudSat detection threshold
What is a cloud? COSP diagnostics will enable quantitative cloud comparisons with satellite observations.
Current Status of COSP within CAMhttp://www.cgd.ucar.edu/cms/jenkay/cosp/cosp.htm • MILESTONES ACHIEVED: • - COSP v1.3 (production version released June 25, 2010) implemented in-line within CAM4/CCSM4 • - Compiles and runs on multiple platforms (linux, bluefire, franklin) • Orbital sub-sampling and advanced namelist control for CFMIP experiments and ROSES09 project implemented • COSP and CAM-compatible COSP code on the CAM/CCSM trunk. • IN PROGRESS: • Test implementation vs. published offline results (Yuying Zhang, Steve Klein LLNL) • Make compatible with CAM5 physics (Jen Kay) • CCSM4/CAM4 production runs for CFMIP5 (Ben Sanderson, Gary Strand CCR NCAR)
