  1. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “Do you want to go to a great college or university?” • Stanford University: “…we are interested in students who have made significant contributions to the life of their school or community”. • Cornell University:“What we're looking for beyond the numbers is intellectual potential, strength of character, and love of learning”. • University of Michigan: “…students should elect Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, honors, enriched, and accelerated high school courses when appropriate and possible”.

  2. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “What is it?” • An alternate diploma program; • Provides an option to Dalat’s college-preparatory diploma; • Meets Dalat’s education goals and ESLRs.

  3. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “What is it?” The AMD has three basic parts— 1. High academic achievement (3.25 GPA; two AP courses); 2. 40 hours of community service; 3. Senior exhibition.

  4. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “What is it?” High academic achievement: GPA is cumulative; Same total number of credit to graduate (24); AP courses: two completed and exams taken.

  5. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “What is it?” Community service: Ten hours per semester beginning with the second semester of the sophomore year and ending with the first semester of the senior year. No direct service to Dalat Int’l School or those associated with the school. Not eligible for Dalat service points.

  6. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “What is it?” Senior exhibition: Students synthesize and apply many skills on a topic of personal interest. Has four parts—a paper; a product; a portfolio; and a presentation.

  7. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “Who can participate?” • Interested sophomores complete an enrollment application early in their second semester; • The application must be approved by the guidance office, the high school principal, parents, and the AMD coordinator.

  8. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “When do I have to make a commitment?” • New sophomores: Near the end of February (24th this year). • Submit the, ‘AMD Application’ to the AMD coordinator by that deadline.

  9. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “Why should you participate?” • For students interested in a diverse and challenging opportunity for personal growth and development. • For students who want to distinguish themselves for admissions to some colleges and universities.

  10. Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) Program “Where can I get more information about the AMD to share with my parents?” • Use on-line resources at the DIS website. • Borrow an, ‘Advanced Merit Diploma’ handbook. • Talk to/schedule an appointment with the AMD coordinator.
