WOMEN IN GERMAN POLITICS • The Bundestag currently has a 32.3% share of women • Goals of the women: • Equal pay for equal work • more female students in technical subjects • the same job opportunities Angela Merkel Angela Merkel is the first female Chancellor of Germany and one of the most powerful women in the world.
ANGELA MERKEL Who am I? Mynameis Angela and I was born on the 17th July 1954 in Hamburg. I am the Chancellorof Germany. I am a memberof the CDU. In 2005 I was elected as the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. Four years later, the Germans spoke to me again their confidence. And in the year 2013 once again I got Chancellor of Germany.
Proportion of women in management positions in the private sector The proportion of women in management positions in the private sector has risen slightly. In 2004, nearly one in four executive chair was in Germany (23 percent) held by a woman - an increase of two percentage points compared to 2000. Especially women under 30, according to the Federal Ministry of Women, are almost as strongly represented in management positions (43 percent) as men.
Women in Germany -Company The profound change in the role of self-understanding and the life of women is one of the serious social upheavals of this century in Germany and other industrialized countries. After many years of misjudgment, reduction, and the prevalence of prejudice, women have since the middle of the century gradually improved education and training, career opportunities, to fight for social and political influence and total equality. However, the social and professional equality of women, in particular what concerns an advancement of opportunities in management positions, are far from being achieved - the proportion of female professors is only seven percent.
Women in the profession and equal rights
Working life of women in Germany • Home, education and care work are often privately run and unpaid - for the most part by women. Despite increasing female labor force participation, the private lives of many couples is still marked as "main breadwinner" model of the role of the man. • To combine work and children is often difficult.Nearly 16 million women are working in Germany. But in most cases they earn less than their male counterparts.
Women’s rights today as opposed to then • Men and women are equal, it says in Article 3 of the Basic Law. Yet, in former times girls were allowed to make no college degree and did not study. Women should take care of the children and the household and her husband were subordinate. In addition to that, women were not permitted to vote for a long time. Today women have equal rights by law, but in some areas they are still disadvantaged. • Today, girls attend the school as well as boys, and it also appears quite normal for women to complete a course of study or pursue a career. But it was a long road and a difficult fight for women to get to the point where we are today.
