Options for Aggregate Reporting to CDC • Option 1: For states and project areas collecting data via an existing immunization information system (IIS) or other application, technical specifications were developed for three different data exchange formats: flat file (pipe-delimited), XML file, HL 7 • Option 2: For states and project areas collecting data manually, an aggregate reporting screen was added to CDC’s CRA application to allow direct data entry via a web browser • Option 3: For states and project areas using CDC’s CRA application to collect patient level information, selected data elements will be automatically aggregated

  3. Why Option 2 • Option 1 required programming meaning time and cost (Version of HL7 was different) • Option 3 meant sending named data and having to enter it into CRA (Double entry) • With Option 2 it was easy to gather the aggregate information off of the Wisconsin Immunization Registry

  4. Data Submitted • # immunized in a given age group • 6 – 23 months • 2 – 18 years • 19 – 49 years • 50 – 64 years • 65+ years • Project area ID • Date(s) of clinics

  5. Challenges • Secure Data Network (SDN) Access • Access was lapsed before expiration and our staff was not informed • Regaining access to SDN • Aggregate data had to be submitted to the SDN within 48 hours of clinic • Finding a local health department that enters influenza vaccine administration data within 24 - 36 hours of an all ages clinic so we had time to pull the data off of WIR and submit to the SDN • Usually no big hurry to enter influenza vaccine only data as it is once per year shot

  6. Challenges • LHD that agreed to participate did not inform us when data was entered • The SDN access problems required us to push the timeline into December • Fewer LHDs and clinics to choose from • Clinic cancelled due to inclement weather causing need to find another LHD with a clinic • Although not a significant issue #s late in the year are lower

  7. Summary Pulling the aggregate data off the WIR is the easy part. All the logistics to get to that point is where the challenges are.
