  2. Instant Messaging • Instant messaging or IM is a form of real-time communication between two or more people based on typed text. The text is conveyed via computers connected over a network such as the Internet.

Instant Messaging - History • ช่วง 1980-1990 ได้มีการใช้ในวงการศึกษาและวิศวกร ในชื่อ UNIX/LINUX Talk และ ในอินเทอร์เน็ตประมาณเดือน พ.ย.พ.ศ. 2539 โดยได้มีการพัฒนา ICQ มาใช้เป็น Messager ในเครื่องที่ไม่ใช่ UNIX/LINUX เป็นครั้งแรก หลังจากนั้นได้มีการพัฒนา IMอย่างต่อเนื่องทำให้มีผู้ใช้งาน IM หลายตัวภายในเครื่องเดียวกัน ในปัจจุบันนอกจากความสามารถในการส่งข้อความต่างๆ ยังได้มีการรับรองการใช้งานอื่นๆเช่น การส่งไฟล์ การประชุมออนไลน์ ( VoIP)ฯ
