  1. Agricultural Communications Documentation Center ACDC

What is the ACDC? • The ACDC is a partnership with the University of Illinois library and the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. • The ACDC is a growing collection and service providing agricultural communications resources to faculty, journalists, students and communicators worldwide with more than 45,000 documents related to 212 countries. • The ACDC provides information on communications related broadly to agriculture, food, natural resources, and rural affairs. • The goal of the ACDC is to help bring together the scattered information about agricultural communications in all parts of the world.

  3. What topics ACDC Covers • All documents in the collection deal with communications in connection with agriculture. Resources emphasize the human and social dimensions of agriculture communications. • “Agriculture” in the broadest sense: • All phases of the food/fiber complex, from production through consumption • All participants in the food/fiber chain (e.g., farmers, agribusiness, consumers) • Sample topics include: food, nutrition, crops, feed, farming, livestock, fiber, renewable energy, rural community development, equipment, farm safety, marketing, financing, policy, and other related areas

Natural resource and environment topics, as related to agriculture and rural interests (e.g., soil conservation; watershed management; rural recreation; water pollution from livestock operations, fertilizer and chemical runoff, and other farm sources) • People and organizations involved in food and agriculture (e.g., farmers, agribusiness, colleges and universities, extension services, scientists, research organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations) • “Communications”: • What people know (awareness, knowledge), feel (attitudes and opinions), intend (behavioral intentions), or do (actions) related to agriculture • Communications media/channels, systems, organizations, skills, methods, programs, technologies, concepts, issues, etc. • How communicators gather information, learn, make decisions, and grow

How can the ACDC help you? • Literature Review Assistance - The ACDC staff regularly searches through journals, newsletters, indexes, and various other sources for materials addressing agriculture and communication issues. • Research Topic Assistance - For example: • Encouraging adoption of recommended practices • Assessing public attitudes toward a topic (biotechnology, water rights, etc.) • Improving communications among agricultural scientists

  6. The ACDC collection is non-circulating. We provide links to all of our items that are available online and we try to keep them as updated as possible. • We also provide scanning services for documents that are fewer than 20 pages long. For longer documents, please consider using inter-library loan. • You are invited to make an appointment to come to the Center to conduct your research. The Funk ACES library has scanners and printers you may use to make copies of our documents for research purposes.

Use ACDC’s Online Resources • Visit Our Website : https://www.library.illinois.edu/funkaces/acdc/ • Check Out Our Useful Links: We have curated list of information on topics, with 60 links on “professional communicator organizations”; 7 links on “journals”; 7 links on “media and methods”; 7 links on “development communications”; 4 links on “extension”; 4 links on “food”; an “indigenous knowledge” link; and 11 additional resource links. • Conduct a Document Search: Begin your search for document citations by visiting our website. Once there, scroll down to the bottom left-hand box labeled “Document Search”. Click on “Start Your Search” to access Bibleaves. From there, you can search for documents by title, topic, author, keyword, etc.
