PROGRAM REVIEW • STATE OF MARYLAND ASBESTOS SAFETY & HEALTH PROGRAM (ASHP) • EXECUTIVE ORDER - 1983 PURPOSE WAS TO EDUCATE ALL STATE EMPLOYEES ABOUT THE POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS AND TO ESTABLISH AN ASBESTOS SAFETY PROGRAM • EXECUTIVE ORDER 1987 ESTABLISHED THE ASBESTOS OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE WHICH COORDINATES ALL STATE-RELATEDASBESTOS ACTIVITIES. • TRACOR JITCO SURVEY- ID ACM IN STATE FACILITIES(mid 1980s)
PROGRAM REVIEW • ESTABLISHED THREE GROUPS: • LEVEL I (MAINTENANCE) WORKS AROUND IT BUT DOES NOT PHYSICALLY DISTURB. • LEVEL II (MAINTENANCE) AFTER REQUIRED TRAINING, MEDICAL MONITORING, FIT TESTING AND INCIDENTAL TO JOB, PHYSICALLY DISTURBS ACM. • LEVEL II (AUTOMOTIVE) SAME AS ABOVE BUT INVOLVES AUTOMOTIVE PARTS THAT CONTAIN ACM
