Queen Elizabeth‘s Official Birthday The King‘s or Queen‘s birthday is one of the most important state holidays of each monarchy. In the UK, official Queen Elizabeth‘s birthday is a movable holiday which is celebrated on Saturday after June 9, in spite of the fact she was born April 21, 1926. The reason is very simple – in June the weather is much better than in April. STUCKERT, Ricardo. Wikimedia Commons [online]. [cit. 15.2.2014]. The Queen‘s official birthday is also called „Trooping the Colour“ as it is connected with a military March parade. „The tradition of „Trooping Colour“ started in 1748. Today, it is a show broadcasted by TV. A „Colour“ is a synonym for a regimental flag. A troop means a military unit. Sometimes, in the past, it was only the colour of the banner what distinguished the regiments from themselves during the battle. BAGLI. WikimediaCommons [online]. [cit. 2.1.2013]. If the „colour“ was destroyed or stolen or if it burned down in the middle of the fight, it caused confusion among soldiers and the battle could have been lost, so the flags had to be seen well as they set the position of the battalion.
