TSC meeting at the EAGE 2013 Overview Location: Novotel London Excel, Royal Victoria room • Open TSC meeting 15:00-16:00 • SEG-Y Rev 2 discussion 16:00-18:00 The times are approximate. The room is reserved from 14:00 to 18:00
Technical Standards Committee 2013 • Chair – Rune Hagelund (rune.hagelund@daeco.no) • Vice-chair – Bill Rimmer (<bill@rimmer.com)
Important web addresses • Technical standards http://www.seg.org/ts • Technical Standards Committee online collaborationsite http://www.seg.org/tsc If you are interested in joining a workgroup or sub-committee, please submit a request at http://www.seg.org/tsc (or let usknownow)
Agenda • Proposals for new updates • SEG-D little-endian samples • Ongoingwork • SEG-Y 2.0 • SPS 3.0 • EM standard format sub-committee • “Seismic field storage medium recommendations” workgroup • “Storage format recommendation” workgroup • AOB
Proposedextentionof SEG-D • Proposal: Add support for little-endian samples • Rationale: • Modern acquisition system (and processing systems) mostly uses little-endian CPUs • Converting to and from big-endian samples costs a lot of processing time and increases the cost of the systems • Comment: This only really applies to sample formats which maps directly to a CPU data type. Formats like 8015 or 8036 will not benefit much.
Proposedextentionof SEG-D Technical proposal: • Add new series of sample format codes, e.g. 90xx 9058 = Little-endian 4 byte IEEE float value.
Proposedextentionof SEG-D Questions: • Is this a good idea? • Can this be done as part of current SEG-D rev 3.0? Or do we need a format update? • The latter requires a longer process
SEG-Y Rev 2.0 • Stewart Levin (salevin@alumni.princeton.edu) heading team • Primarycurrentactivityof TSC • Lots of industry interest • Working documentswww.seg.org/tsc - Documents/Format Development/SEG-Y/SEG-Y Rev 2.0 • Forumwww.seg.org/tscForum/SEG-Y/SEG-Y Revision 2 Working Group
SEG-Y Rev 2.0 Quick overview from team
SPS 3.0 • Team headed by Peter Green <peter.green@aramco.com> • Not much progress since SEG 2012 Las Vegas • Team unfortunately not here to present status • Question: Anyone interested in joining the team?
EM sub-committee • Headed by Friedrich Roth (froth@emgs.com)
Seismic field storage medium recommendations • Group headed by Nils Aatland (n.s.aatland@fugro.no)
Storage Format recommendations • Headed by Jill Lewis (jill@troika-int.com)
