This activity focuses on introducing classroom expectations, goals, and procedures, as well as practicing graphing functions from tables of values. Students will also participate in a fun icebreaker activity.

Do Now • On a sheet of paper, copy down the format of the paper to the right of the screen. • Turn in Student Survey at my rolling desk. • Answer the following INDEPENDENTLY and SILENTLY (use syllabus if needed): • What are the goals for this class? • When is the signed syllabus due? • List three things you are looking forward to in class this year. • List two things you are not looking forward to in class this year. • List one thing I can directly help you with.

Goals Expectations Non-negotiables: (1) Everyone will learn (2) Everyone will engage respectfully. • 100% Pass Rate of class • 80% Mastery Rate (80% or above on everything) • Average class score will be at least 75% on unit exams • You’re ready for college math!
Daily Procedure • Tardy: I will start class at ___. You are late at ___. • Do Now: Pick up papers at front, complete Do Now on board on your Do Now sheet of paper. • Lecture: all eyes and ears up at the front, following along, raised hand for questions • Activities/group work: diligently working by talking quietly, helping one another, raised hand for questions. • Turning in work: place in “To Grade” folder in my bin • NO PHONES. Place them in the appropriate bin that has your number. • NO FOOD OR DRINK. Closed-cap water is fine.
Two Truths, One Lie • Write down two truths, one lie on your sheet of paper. • 2 minutes to think of them. • Randomly select each person to go. • They’ll share their two truths and one lie; we have to guess which one is the lie. • Person who fools the most people will receive a snack (NO EATING IN CLASS)
First Day Activity • Make a well-labeled, clean graph of the data in the table. • Determine if it is a linear function (straight line), an exponential function (curved line in one direction), or a quadratic function (curved line in both directions). • Answer the 5 questions near the bottom. • Turn in before the end of class.
