  1. An insight into Clinical Sexology Hello! Vanakkam and Namaste! This is Dr Shah Dupesh, consultant sexology doctor in kodambakkam. I primarily specialize in the management of male infertility and sexual health. My private practice is based in T-Nagar, Chennai were in I help numerous patients facing complicated male infertility and/or complex sexual health issues. What is Sexology? Sexology is the branch of medicine that deals with male sexual function and dysfunction. A sexologist is someone who exclusively specializes in the domain of sexual health. These hardy doctors are guys who specifically specialize in treating a wide range of sex related issues that affect both men and women. Much of the early work in the field of sexual medicine began with the pioneering experiments done by Masters and Johnston. A systematic scientific enquiry was conducted by these doctors into the field of sexual medicine as early as the 1800's. Why sexual health? Today sexual health problems seem to spare no one!. Problems with sexual function seem to affect a large number of patients across age groups. However the severity of different problems of course varies with age. Moreoever problems with erectile function can frequently compound or cause problems in another partner. For example, in a condition called vaginismus, female patients frequently suffer from severe pain during sexual intercourse. In such scenarios, the male partner will concomitantly be turned off and suffer from erectile dysfunction proximately due to the vaginismus.

  2. Not just this, but problems with sexual function frequently can also lead to a range of infertility issues. An estimated 15% of patients suffer from severe sexual dysfunction that results in infertility issues. The Role of a Sexologist A sexologist doctor is someone who can help you through your sexual dysfunction hand in hand in a completely non judgemental manner. When you visit a sexologist at first you will asked an in depth clinical history about your sexual health condition. This includes conditions a detailed history about your fantasy, expectations, sexual practices et cetera. Usually your doctor will see both you and your wife separately. Following the history taking your sexologist will then order some blood tests to assess if their organic problems leading to your issues in sexual functions. After which a suitable course of medications is given. Usually treatments proceed with a combination of psychosexual counselling, behavioural therapy and simple medications for a duration of 60 to 90 days. Once your treatment is complete, your medication dose will be slowly tapered down.
