What is ivf? In-vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process where an egg is artificially combined with a sperm outside the body. The process is carried out ‘in-vitro’ or in simple terms, in a test tube. The IVF process is a combination of complex tasks that includes monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing an egg (ovum/ova) from the woman’s ovaries and letting the sperm fertilize the same in a liquid in a laboratory. WHAT ARE THE TESTS/STEPS TAKEN BEFORE THE IVF CYCLE ? Before beginning a cycle of IVF using your own eggs and sperm, you and your partner will likely need various screenings, including: • Ovarian reserve testing – In this test the clinic will test your Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Estrogen and other hormones in the first few days of your menstrual cycle. • Semen analysis – In this test the fertility analysis of the semen is done.
