Personal Motion PlatformFlogiston, Austin, TX Innovation - The immersive cyber-space system provides a high level of immersion in virtual and telepresence environments based on neutral immersion techniques. - Provides full field of view visuals, spatial sound, full body vibration and motion cueing while reclining in the neutral posture of Zero G. This enables extended periods of non contacting immersion at a high level of comfort, suitable for long EVA simulations. - Unique bubble dome display uses fisheye rendering methods, back projection and LCD projectors to provide full field of view at moderate cost. - System can use a range of motion bases depending on performance requirements. Accomplishments - Developed a range of motion bases - electric, hydraulic and pneumatic - to provide motion cueing, and motion behavioral model software with base specific drivers - Developed bubble dome display, fisheye rendering software, fisheye video content - Developed custom amplifiers to drive motion base, shakers and speakers as single vibration and sound system - Developed composite version of neutral posture chair and head shells - Developed neutral hand controllers for navigation, manipulation and emulation of mice and keyboards - Developed an entry level system without motion base for commercial applications - Demonstrated at Siggraph, SXSW, Comdex and other conferences. Immersive Cyberspace System Government/Science Applications - Developed for NASA as an EVA training system for astronauts. Applications in development at VETL, U of H. - New NASA SBIR awarded 1998 to develop the bubble display for telepresence operations on the International Space Station. - Entry level model suitable for promoting NASA programs to public using immersive movies and live immersive TV. Commercialization - Awarded patent in 1997 for immersive cyberspace system. Trademarked as Flostation. - Licensed dome for immersive arcade games. Other versions in development. - Discussions underway with potential OEM customers, strategic partners and investors for production and marketing. - Customers include Intel, Motorola, Cirrus Logic and the Collaboratory. - Markets include entertainment, health, communications and training - A new Flostation, called Joestation, was completed and delivered to eCitySuites, a new type of business incubator for ecommerce, in Houston on February 28th. It will be used for rest and relaxation for ecommerce startups who need to zone out from the day. It has it's own small private room in the business incubator.
