  2. Gleanings from surveys: Concerns • Securing funding • Keeping funding • Identifying appropriate niche • Developing partnerships & collaborations • “Operational differences” – potential conflicts & friction between AHEN and affiliated institutions in terms of competition & support.

  3. “What we are learning” posts: People • Key players represent many constituencies : • Teachers • Parents • Administrators • Legislators • Business community • Partners (directors) in AHE Network • Faculty @ 2- and 4-year institutions

  4. “What we are learning” posts: Funding • ARC funding is “seed” funding. • “Grant writing needs to be focused & prepared with specific outcomes; must be motivated & in agreement.” • “We need a timeline with benchmarks to establish a funding plan.”

  5. “What we are learning” posts: Funding • “We need roles & responsibilities assigned with regard to development & submission of a proposal.” • “It is important that we decide upon our strategy for securing funding to sustain the AHE program.” • Absolutely critical component: data.

  6. “What we are learning” posts: Networking • “Effective networking is critical to sustainability.” • “We are a network working together to improve capacity of young people to continue their education. Progress is working together.” • “Even though different in many aspects, AHE Centers are & can be stronger – collectively.”

Leadership Networking: CCL • It’s all about building relationships & making alliances • A good leadership network provides access to: • People • Information • Resources • Networks can: • Increase effectiveness • Remove political roadblocks • Strengthen power base • Gain exposure • Uncover new opportunities

  9. Putting it all together: next steps • Acknowledge concerns & identify strategies to address them. • Develop individual action plans for sustainability. • Connect individual action plans to larger picture (AHE Network). • Adjust & refine plans individually & collectively as needed to move forward.
