  2. What is the role of language in the society? • How do we show our identity through language?  • This course will provide an overview of language as an aspect of social life. It examines variations in language that are determined by age, region, gender, social status, etc. The purpose of this course is to develop a critical understanding of how linguistic diversity can be managed in various social settings, including multiethnic workplace, urban space, social media, court and education.

How coursework will be organized Reading Responses (35%) - three new facts learned from a text or short (one to two paragraph) response to one of the provided question(s) + a question that you have related to the readings that you would like us to address. Small research projects (35%) The final project (30%)

Learning outcomes After completing the course the student is expected to be able - to present the central theories and methods in sociology of language - use the most important terms and concepts for analyzing a language environment and to explain their decision about policies at school, at home, at work, within a government building, city street
