Mass Media • The idea of mass media points to the notion that the masses should have the same access to information as the elites • Media refers to media of communication or a medium of communication between 2 or more people
Mass Media There are different types of media: Traditional forms include Print media – books, magazine, newspapers Broadcast media – radio and television Modern methods include internet, music and computer software Broadcast media can now be called electronic media
Mass Media • One view of the media state that it was used to make ideas popular such as equality as well as to stir up support for the trade union movement, black consciousness and the struggle for independence • Another view suggested it was a sanitation process and a simplified version of events thereby misleading the public
