  1. To Infinitec and Beyond!!! Using Technology to Differentiate Instruction in the Classroom November 28, 2006 Presented by Cindy Sherman

  2. Goals for the Day • Log onto and explore the Infinitec Website • Discuss how to incorporate technology to differentiate learning in the classroom. • Learn about other sites that can provide students support in your classroom.

  3. DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION… Is a teacher’s response to diverse learners’ needs (by adjusting content, process, or product). Adapted from Differentiated Instruction PowerPoint April 2006 Dennince Craig presenter.

  4. Effective Differentiated Instruction follows several key principles. • Learner-centered (know your students) • Knowledge-centered (know the content) • Proactive planning of multiple routes for student success (“universal design”) • Ongoing assessment & adjustment • Flexible pacing • Creation of a respectful learning community • Small, flexible, learning groups • A variety of materials and resources Adapted from Differentiated Instruction PowerPoint May 2006 Dennince Craig presenter.

  5. Teachers can differentiate … • Content ( the information?) • Process (by which students tackle the information) • Product (the evidence of student learning) Adapted from Differentiated Instruction PowerPoint May 2006 Dennince Craig presenter.

  6. Teachers differentiate according to students’ … • Readiness (skills & knowledge mastered) • Interests (what attracts/motivates them) • Learning profile (learning style, true color, multiple intelligence, etc.) Adapted from Differentiated Instruction PowerPoint May 2006 Dennince Craig presenter.

  7. What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL) • Proactively plans content that demonstrates an awareness of each students abilities, interests, and learning styles. • Universal does not imply one solution for everyone. Different learners have different needs. • UDL is a tool that helps educators differentiate their instruction through articulated goals and individualize materials, methods, and assessments.

  8. How do we do this?Through Pyramid Planning

  9. Goals for the Day Discuss how to incorporate technology to differentiate learning in your classroom. Learn about other sites that can provide students support in your classroom.
