  2. Aims of Workshop • To enhance knowledge of how Numeracy is • taught at CGPS • To understand some of the strategies used to • develop children’s learning of multiplication • and division at KS1

  3. Numeracy in KS1 • Use vocabulary correctly • Maths for a real purpose • Concept building, practical activities, outdoor learning • Maths is fun! • Aware of the strategies they use to calculate • More confident

  4. Multiplication and Division introduction • Year 2 Spring term • Multiply by 2, 5 and 10 and extend to 3 and 4 • Concept building • Moving towards learning times tables in Year 3 • Move towards linking to division and • multiplication facts

  5. Multiplication vocabulary • X • times • multiply • repeated addition • lots of • arrays

  6. Multiplication strategies • Counting in sequences of 2, 5, 10 • Doubling another word for x 2 • Identify multiples • Arrays, lots of • Repeated addition

  7. Division strategies • Know that halving is the inverse of doubling • Divide by sharing equally into groups • Concept building
