  4. Training strategy VISION A sustainable education and training system is in place in Member States compatible with the requirements of the BSS and other relevant radiation safety standards. Target date for the successful implementation of the strategy: 31.12.2010

Training strategy OBJECTIVES • Put in place an appropriate education and training programme as a mechanism for the implementation of the BSS and other relevant safety standards; • Encourage appropriate knowledge and understanding to promote and sustain safe working practices; • Promote the continuous exchange of information between Member States.

Recommendations IAEA • Formally adopt the proposed strategy for the development of sustainable training in Member States; • Clearly assign the responsibilities for the internal implementation of the plan; • Continue developing the network of training centres; • Continue to run seminars, conferences, etc;

  7. Recommendations IAEA (cont’d) • Optimize the direct involvement of specialist IAEA personnel in training activities; • Set-up mechanisms for the development and updating of appropriate training aids and materials • Adopt the use of modular training material;

  9. Recommendations IAEA (cont’d) • Facilitate the development of trainers in radiation protection and safety; • Encourage all Member States to develop and implement strategies for refresher training courses; • Set–up a Steering Committee.

Training strategy Establish Steering Committee to: • Assist in defining the criteria to be fulfilled by the Regional and Collaborating Training Centres; • Suggest financial contributors for the National and Regional Centres; • Consider the training of trainers as a high priority to ensure sustainability; • Assess the effectiveness of the distance learning trials and make available on the Internet;

  11. Recommendations Steering Committee (cont’d) • Set-up performance indicators to assess the implementation of the strategy; • Advise on setting up a mechanism of regular feedback to the IAEA and training centres;

  12. Recommendations Steering Committee (cont’d) • request regional and national training centres to submit a summary of training activities; • review and advice on the progress made in the implementation of the strategic plan and draw up a report on the outcome of the review.
