Howdrugs are taken • Inhaled, (breathed into the lungs) • Injected . • Insufflation, or snorted into the nose. • Orally, absorbed through the intestines. • Rectally as a suppository, • Sublingually, diffusing into the blood through tissues under the tongue. • Topically, usually as a cream or ointment.
Heroin • Heroin is a member of the opiate family. • It comes from poppy seeds. • It is the same family as morphine, Which is used medically
Heroin Heroin is a powerful DEPRESSANT It quickly enters the brain where it causes a rush of euphoric feeling, this is followed by several hours of drowsiness
Heroin is a one of the most ADDICTIVEsubstances known. • Addiction is a characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, and by neurochemical and molecular changes in the brain. Heroin also produces profound degrees of tolerance and physical dependence, which are also powerful motivating factors for compulsive use and abuse. Heroin also has severe withdrawl symptoms.

NICOTINE • It is absorbed into the blood and affects the brain within 10 seconds. It causes smokers to feel good because of the neurotransmitters (chemicals in the brain) that it releases. • It also causes a surge of heart rate, blood pressure, and adrenaline (which also feels good). • When the effects of nicotine on the brain and body wear off, the smoker feels worse than before. This reinforces the craving for another cigarette.
Tar • Tar is a thick, sticky substance, and when inhaled it sticks to the cilia. These normally protect the lungs from dirt and infection, but when covered in tar they can't do their job. • Tar also narrows the bronchioles and reduces elasticity of the lungs.
CARBON MONOXIDE • It decreases the amount of oxygen in the blood, which deprives all the organs of oxygen and puts a strain on the heart.
