Pelvic Fractures • Pelvic fracture can cause significant blood loss which will be exacerbated if not managed correctly • Clinical signs and symptoms include: • Shock of unexplained aetiology • Shock greater than expected • Abdominal rigidity, guarding or distension • Pain/tenderness • Deformity

  3. Management of Pelvic Fractures • Oxygen • Immobilisation and analgesia • Fluid therapy • Do NOT “spring” the pelvis • If the mechanism of injury suggests a possible fracture then splint it!

Sam Pelvic Splint • Medicare EMS Ltd have provided two sizes of pelvic splint to be used • Each size can be found of every vehicle with the other splinting equipment • The Sam pelvic splint is an effective way to immobilise a patients pelvis providing the correct controlled amount of force to limit further damage and blood loss

Sam Pelvic Splint • The splint has been designed not to over-tighten or under-tighten unlike other splints which allow unlimited force to be applied • The splint will stop the pull when the correct amount of force has been applied • This mechanism is vital in high pressured situations where over- tightening could potentially be extreme and harmful

  6. Sam Pelvic Splint • The splint is one use only • No adjustment is necessary prior to use • The two sizes Medicare EMS Ltd carry will fit 98% of the adult population
