How to love that sister with the purple hair and the funny glasses.
The Torah prescribes death to all who transgress it. • Is this true even in the New Covenant?
Our flesh has DIED with Jesus, but thanks to the New Covenant we have also been ressurected with Him as new creations.
Colossians 3:1-10 • 1. Therefore if you have been raised up with The Messiah, keep seeking the things above, where The Messiah is, seated at the right hand of G-d.2. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.3. For you have died and your life is hidden with The Messiah in G-d.4. When The Messiah, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.5. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.6. For it is because of these things that the wrath of G-d will come upon the sons of disobedience,7. and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.8. But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.9. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,10. and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him
As new creatures, we are to behave in a new way. We are to be “dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry… anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech.” We are also not to “lie to one another.” • That’s a mouthful!
Colossians 3:11 • 11. a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but The Messiah is all, and in all.
Now Paul takes it one step farther and says that in our renewed state, “there is no distinction” between us. • Does that mean we are all the same? In Galatians 3:28 Paul says: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus”.
Men and women are most certainly different from one another. Paul infact emphasises these differences later. • He is saying that no person is saved by virtue of what they are. “G-d is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). • Each person has their place, but nobody is more loved by Our Father in heaven.
Colossians 3:12-17 • 12. So, as those who have been chosen of G-d, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;13. bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the L-rd forgave you, so also should you.14. Beyond all these things put onlove, which is the perfect bond of unity.15. Let the peace of The Messiah rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.16. Let the word of The Messiah richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to G-d.17. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the L-rd Jesus, giving thanks through Him to G-d the Father.
We may be vastly different from one another, but ALL are chosen of G-d, holy and loved by Him. • So now, more than just be changed inwardly, we should pay attention to how we interact with one another. • So how does all this work on a practical level?
We are all called to a unique place in the body of Jesus. Even your race, gender and social status are ministries in themselves. • Our G-D-given functions are not to cause division, but have been put in place to compliment and assist each other...even glorify G-D!
We are not supposed to be the same.Infact, making things so will be an abomination to G-D who designed things as they are. Rather>>>
Colossians 3:18-4:1 • 18. Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the L-rd.19. Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.20. Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the L-rd.21. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.22. Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the L-rd.23. Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the L-rd rather than for men,24. knowing that from the L-rd you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the L-rd, The Messiah whom you serve.25. For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. אל־הקולסים 4 :1. Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.
We are to serve Jesus in our respective functions and devote ourselves to prayer. • “2. Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2)
What is the point of this unity in diversity? • 5. Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.6. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. (Colossians 4:5-6)
Only when we are in unity internally, can we be effective in reaching the World. • Jesus prayed for us: • “21. that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.22. "The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;23. I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.” (John 17:21-23)
