Every year, Republic Day is celebrated in India on 26th January. Since 1950, this date is commemorated to honour the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect. After years of struggle and suppression, India became independent from the rule of British Raj and forged its path towards becoming a democratic nation. This occasion helps us celebrate the many milestones of our nation and encourages us to continue working towards more national advancements. Republic Day also reminds us of the need to contribute to the progress of our nation and support one another, especially the underprivileged. Millions of underprivileged children in India are deprived of their basic rights and this cruel reality needs to change. From a lack of education and healthcare facilities to child abuse in India in the form of child labour, child marriage, and gender inequality — children from varied underprivileged communities face a lot of trauma and abuse. This is why citizens of India need to join hands to work towards empowering children and helping them lead happier and healthier childhoods. Volunteering is one of the best ways to serve the country by helping underprivileged children via mindful and dedicated actions. Offering one’s time and efforts can help the volunteer create a long-term change in the lives of children and also help them undergo a transformational
journey. Virtual and local volunteering involves a commitment where one can digitally support the existing programs of an NGO or offer on- ground support respectively. The scope of contribution is endless — from research work to media monitoring, from IT support to content translations, there are many ways to engage. Committed volunteers can also help forge partnerships, build awareness about the causes of the NGO, or help via content writing, photography, or design work. This Republic Day, you can join hands with CRY (Child Rights and You), one of the top NGOs in India, to contribute towards the betterment of underprivileged children. You can volunteer or donate to CRY and avail a 50% tax exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Support CRY and help make a difference!
