  3. Can you still remember? Name something edible. The person on the right will continue to name another edible item which starts with the last letter of the previous item.   6. Outline of the Passion Week Saturday Jesus laid in the tomb during the Sabbath, and the Pharisees secured Roman guards to keep watch of the tomb (Matt. 27:61-66; Mark 15:47; Luke 23:55-56). Sunday Christ was resurrected from the dead (Matt. 28:1-15; Mark 16:1-8 [9-13]; Luke 24:1-35). He is a type of the offering of the Firstfruits, which was offered the day after the Sabbath (Lev. 23:9-14; 1 Cor. 15:23).

If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith is in vain.'(1 Cor. 15:12-14) Viewed as the ultimate victory over the powers of sin and death, the resurrection of the Lord is not only an historical event but also the sign of God's power over all the forces which can keep us from his love and goodness. It is a victory not only for Christ himself but also for all those united with him (1 Pet. 1:3f). It is a victory which marks the beginning of a new era (Jn 20:17). The resurrection is the ultimate expression of the Father's gift of reconciliation and unity in Christ through the Spirit.   9. Resurrection (24:1-11) Apologetics on the Lord’s resurrection video. Note what happened to the women during the first day of the week. The fulfillment of the first 2 prophecies (v.6): 1. Must suffered and crucified 2. Rise on the third day.

Moses and his people went out by faith into the wilderness to the Promised Land. Who made the first move? Why is that important? Looking at Luke 24:1-11, what do you noticed about the women and the disciples? Faith in action? Why do you think that the Lord’s resurrection is vital for them? Jesus proved His words by the resurrection. They witnessed it and that enhanced a different level of faith. Faith is a process. It can grow…

  12. The Two Disciples at Emmaus (24:13-35) On the way to Emmaus, 7 miles from Jerusalem. Did not recognise Jesus - cf Mary Magdalene (John 20:14) & apostles (24:37) Why couldn’t they recognise Him? :) One of the two wasCleopas. The sufferings of the Messiah were the essential condition of final victory and of the glory that followed (v.26). Note the account of the entire event.

  13. Appearance to the Apostles (24:36-49) Describe the account of the encounter - popular section for past year questions. Why not believing that the Messiah had risen? 1. Appearance of Jesus too good to be true. 2. They were too affected by the crucifixion. Jesus had a real though glorified body. The disciples saw Him in this body and handled Him with the print of the nails in His hands and feet and the wound inflicted in His side by the spear - evidences that He is alive.

  14. The Lord’s Resurrected Body It was a physical body that had bones and flesh and that could eat; but his body could also vanish suddenly and appear suddenly. His body defied gravity and was able to rise up to heaven. It was a glorified body that disappeared / ‘vaporised’ from the grave cloths.

  15. Ascension (24:50-53) Happened in Bethany. First recorded words of Jesus: “Why did you have to look for me? Didn't you know that I had to be in my Father's house?” (2:49) Last words in Luke: “And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you.” (24:49) The assurance of continued fellowship with the ascended Lord in the person of the Holy Spirit swept away any despair they might have felt at His departure (v.52-53)

  16. Ascension (24:50-53) Coming next!!! Dr Luke has traced the Christian movement from its beginnings with Jesus of Nazareth in the Gospel of Luke. He will continue to trace its development into a worldwide fellowship transcending the limits of Jewish nationality and embracing Jews and Gentiles impartially. He will present Jesus not as a mere Jewish Messiah, but as a world Saviour. All these and more in the Acts of the Apostles. See you next year!

  22. PROJECT FOR LUKE In preparing this project you may use your Bible, text book and any research materials you wish. Be sure to write legibly, using a computer printer, pen and ink, or ballpoint pen. DO NOT USE A PENCIL. Imagine that you were there at the scene of the crucifixion. Choose one of the characters who were there, e.g., the disciples, the women, soldier, criminal, etc., and imagine yourself as that person looking at Jesus on the cross. Narrate in a essay of 300 to 500 words, all the events based on Chapter 23 from a personal perspective. You may also use resources from other chapters or books of the Bible. Be imaginative! The project must be submitted by end of October 2009. The best submitted work will be awarded accordingly.
