Step 1: Lead in Talk about different jobs Aiming at arousing the students’ learning interest and curiosity in today’s topic ----volcanologist
Step 2: Listening Listening skill Pre-listening (predication) While-listening (have a general knowledge of the profession as a volcanologist and the most frightening experiences) Post-listening(train the required skills in reading aloud---reading with emotion and in a correct tone)
Step 3: Speaking 1.Role Play Volunteers --- people in the disaster-hit area 2.Presentation and retelling The purpose is to develop the students’ ability of instant memory. Story retelling is also a required skill in senior teaching as well as in Guangdong NMET .
Step 4: Summary ① Go over the expressions about fear and anxiety. ② Help the students to form a right attitude towards the power of nature force /disasters.
My attitude ---whenever a disaster comes about, we should offer a hand to whoever needs help.Try out best to protect the environment all the time.
Homework Ask the students to write an email to one of their pen pals in UK sharing with him/her an experience about powerful natural force/disasters that they have experienced or heard. A situation is set for the students to make good use of what they learnt today to express a natural disaster and their feelings about it.
