WEEK 4 Usability & More
What is USABILITY?
“On the Web, usability is a necessary condition for survival. If a website is difficult to use, people leave. If the homepage fails to clearly state what a company offers and what users can do on the site, people leave. If users get lost on a website, they leave. If a website's information is hard to read or doesn't answer users' key questions, they leave. “ Jakob Nielsen
What does this really MEAN? Do we have to get a bunch of FOCUS GROUPS? USABILITY Will this COST MORE? Is this the same as ACCESSI-BILITY?
It’s all about MENTAL MODELS
Jakob's Law of the Internet User Experience “Users spend most of their time on websites other than yours.”
Conventions COUNT

Usability MYTHOLOGY
Usbility TESTING
Focus groups are about understanding people’s feelings and opinions about something whereas usability tests are about learning how people use things.” http://www.uxteam.com/blog/focus-groups-vs-usability-testing/
During the test… 1. Instruct the participants to speak their thoughts and actions as they think/do them. 2. Participants are not allowed to ask questions during the test.
Evaluate the notes
What about ACCESSIBILITY?
“Web accessibility refers to the inclusive practice of removing barriers that prevent interaction with, or access to websites, by people with disabilities. When sites are correctly designed, developed and edited, all users have equal access to information and functionality.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_accessibility
You’ve launched… NOW WHAT?
