  3. New Year’s Eveand New Year’s Day New Year's Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink alcohol, and watchfireworks to mark the new year. The celebrations generally go on past midnight into January 1. Saint Valentine's Day, is observed on February 14 each year. Saint Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddingsfor soldiers who were forbidden to marry, and for ministering to Christians, who werepersecuted under the Roman Empire. Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the hearts, doves, and the figure of the wingedCupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

  4. Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year. It is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the first day of spring. Not only is Easter the end of the winter it is also the end of Lent. Many of the symbols and traditions of Easter are connected with renewal, birth, good luck and fertility. In the UK before they were replaced by chocolate Easter eggs real eggs were used, which were hard-boiled and dyed in various colors and patterns. In the UK children believe that if they are good the "Easter Bunny " will leave (chocolate) eggs for them. Hot cross bunsare traditional Easter food.

  5. Halloween is celebrated worldwide on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Saints. Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving pumpkins and telling scary stories. The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event that has taken place on the streets of Notting Hill in London since 1965. It is led and performed over three days each August by members of the West Indian community, which has attracted around one million people in the past years, making it one of the largest street festivals in the world.

  6. April Fools' Day is celebrated in many countries on April 1 every year. Also referred to as All Fools' Day, is widely recognized and celebrated as a day when people play practical jokes on their friends and family members. Christmas The Christmas dinner usually consists of roast turkey, served with stuffing and gravy, with roast potatoes, vegetables (parsnips, sprouts, and carrots), as a dessert comes Christmas pudding.

  7. Christmas Eve occurs on December 24, when the Midnight Mass is celebrated. Christmas Day, December 25. Gifts are given to children and adults by Father Christmas. The gifts are placed into stockings hung up on the side of bed on Christmas Eve. The presents are unwrapped on the morning of Christmas Day and then the dinner is eaten at midday and carols are sung. Traditional symbols are nativity scenes, Christmas tree and decorations and holly with mistletoeand crackers. Boxing Day, December 26,is a public holiday when people go and visit their families. It is also a day when money are given to poorer countries and workers.
