  9. Home/School Communication Our first line of communication is through Your child’s red folder. Please be sure it is returned to school each day. If there are forms to fill out, informational flyers, save the dates, or any other information you need it will come home in the red folder. E-mail, Class Dojo or phone calls would the second line of communication. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail with questions or concerns. Option C is also a great resource for you as a parent!

  10. Homework • Expect homework Monday – Thursday and occasionally over the weekend if there is an upcoming test or project. • Special Folders – Come home every Tuesday with the graded work from the previous week. Keep all work, sign box on front with corresponding date, return folder the next day.

  11. Behavior Policy (and a lot more!)

  12. Making students aware of their choices. • All choices have consequences, sometimes good, sometimes bad. • Class Dojo is a fun way to make our students aware of the choices and consequences. • Positive choices get them awarded positive points, while negative choices warrant negative points. • This is a way to communicate to you how your child is doing that day. Negative points are a way to show your child and you what needs to be worked on. • Everyone has a paper with your and your child’s login code for this year in my class in the purple folder.

  13. What else does Dojo do? • Tests and project dates will be posted here when papers and/or study guides are sent home. • Copies of study guides will also be posted in case the originals get lost. • Spelling words will be posted on Mondays. Students copy are in red folder, but sometimes papers can be lost. • It’s a window into our classroom. I will almost always post something every day. • Messaging through the app is easy to send me a quick message in the morning if someone is sick or having a rough start. If they have a dismissal change, you can let me know, but you must go through the proper procedure with the office as well. A Dojo message will not cover it!

  14. Food Allergies I NEED to know of any and all known food allergies as soon as possible!!! Please fill out and return the bright orange Food Allergy” form BEFORE you leave this afternoon.

  15. Accelerated Reader • Each trimester students have the Star Reading test administered. This gives students an AR goal each trimester to try to meet. • Star Reading tests are 30 questions long, and progressively get harder with the more questions answered correctly.  However, the logarithm is built if you start missing a number of harder questions, they start mixing the easier questions back in.  It progresses from one sentence questions to full paragraphs.  Star tests also only allow a certain amount of time per question. From these answers, we are given the student’s current reading level and AR goal for the year. • We will use the assessment tools within AR to form and monitor our RTI groups for Reading.

  16. Super Star! • In your red folder is a list of when your child will be the Super Star. • I’ll send home a poster that will need to get filled out the Friday before their week. (Mine will be displayed on the board). • They are allowed and encouraged to bring in pictures to share (I would say 15 being the max). • On Friday we interview the Star for more information that’s not on the poster. Kids love it!

  17. Birthdays • In your red folder is a list of all birthdays and half birthdays for the school year. Is it correct? • We are happy to celebrate on their day, or the closest day if it’s on a weekend. • Please only send in enough treats for our class. No distributing extras to other teachers. • Please be aware there is a peanut/tree-nut food allergy in our class this year. When choosing a treat look for peanut/tree-nut free.

  18. Classroom Rules • Be Responsible • Be Respectful • Be Ready • Be Safe

  19. Guest Readers • Something new this year, having guest readers. • Check your schedules and see if there are days and times that would work for you to come in. • I will take the info and create a Sign Up Genius for the year. • I will provide books if needed, but you are welcome to bring in 1 or 2 of your own choosing.
