The 5-Step Literacy Routine • Poll and Email:Prior to reading, students recognize their perspective about the topic and support their opinion with a written explanation. • Article: Students read through the article, completing the reading connections activities as they read. • Activity:Students demonstrate understanding of the article they have just read. • Poll: Students re-evaluate their original position after gathering information from their reading of the article. • Thought Question: Students compose a well-written response to the article.
The Jenkins Plan • Students will complete Achieve3000 readings and activities in their social studies, science, and language arts classes. • Every week, students will complete two articles in class and one article as a homework assignment. We will offer support to students that don’t have internet access at home. • At school and at home, we want to celebrate success and keep students motivated to keep on progressing.
