COURSE INFORMATION ENGLISH • Class focused on developing writing fluency and increasing writing skills • journaling • frequent essays • daily responses in class • Advanced grammar study (clauses, phrases, sentence structure) • Class works on improving reading comprehension and analysis • reading novels, short stories, poems, essays, non-fiction writing • working on response to literature, especially group discussions • working with increasingly sophisticated literary devices and topics (allegory, irony, allusion, figurative language, theme, etc.)

COURSE INFORMATION • Math 8/Pre-Algebra 8 • Class focuses on developing algebraic skills • exponents • scientific notation • expression and equations • Functions • Graphing linear and systems • Geometric Transformations • Pythagorean Theorem/distance and midpoint formula • Algebra 1 and Honors Algebra 1 • High school credit • Students will focus on functions both linear and quadratic and some cubic. • Expressions • Scientific notation and rational numbers • Linear equations and inequalities writing, graphing and solving • Systems of equations and inequalities • Exponential functions • solving quadratics by factoring, graphing quadratic formula, and completing the square • Absolute value equation • Radicals • Rational equation and functions • Extreme Algebra!

Request information will be sent through email midway through 1st quarter for students • Both day and evening sessions available • Meet with several teachers at the same time • As-needed conferences available throughout the year • Scheduled during Tuesday and Thursday PLC meeting periods (3:15-3:45.) • Contact any teacher to request a PLC conference

  29. iPads • Due to the Straight A grant, all students will be receiving an iPad with an Otterbox case later this quarter • The purpose of this technology is to provide individualized instruction and improved remediation and enrichment • Much more information from the district will follow
