Crusades Pt 2. Many knights and nobles died in the Crusades leaving land to be taken by the Kings = Kings become more powerful. Due to high casualties of war, the population decreases. Constant fighting among religious groups created persecution, tension, & dislike for each other.

Many knights and nobles died in the Crusades leaving land to be taken by the Kings = Kings become more powerful. • Due to high casualties of war, the population decreases. • Constant fighting among religious groups created persecution, tension, & dislike for each other. • The cost of war increased the need for the lending of money, creating a banking system = going from barter back to money based economy. • Trade routes begin to open up between the east & west due to traveling to the wars= new/old ideas, inventions, & cultures spread to Western Europe. • More trade created towns and cities to come back. • A king overspends on a Crusade & heavily taxed his nobles= they rebel forcing the King to outline their rights & limit his power in Magna Carta, this is called a constitutional monarchy.
