An Essential Part Of A Large Crane Is An Electromagnetic Brake

In the world of shipping, the busiest port in the UK is Felixstowe in Suffolk. It is situated on the East Coast making it perfect as a gateway to Europe and Asia. 1. An Essential Part Of A Large Crane Is An Electromagnetic Brake

  2. In the world of shipping, the busiest port in the UK is Felixstowe in Suffolk. It is situated on the East Coast making it perfect as a gateway to Europe and Asia. It has a workforce of over 3,000 people and handles no less than 4 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of cargo every year. That is a LOT of cargo! In fact, Felixstowe is one of the largest container terminals in the world. Our second-busiest container port is Southampton. Situated on the South Coast it not only provides easy access to Europe and Asia, but also to the Americas. It connects easily to the road and rail network which means that goods can be moved fast across the country. Then there is the Port of London at Tilbury in Essex, followed by Liverpool, and then also Immingham which many Southerners probably are not aware of, situated as it is on the Humber estuary in Lincolnshire. Even Immingham, which is our fifth largest port, handles ½ million TEUs of cargo a year and has a staff of over 1,000 people. It is particularly busy with oil and gas, coal, and iron ore. Situated where it is, it provides easy access to Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, and the rest of the North.

  3. Cranes Of course, one of the things that all of these ports use is cranes – and they use a considerable number of them, because they are essential machines for off-loading all of the goods that arrive in the UK. Visit any one of these ports and you will see cranes operating day and night. Not only that, but these are big cranes. They have to be in order to handle the huge weight of many of the containers that they deal with. Cranes are, of course, large mechanical items that need not only to be able to deal with all of the goods they handle, but also require highly skilled operators to work them. In addition, they need to be safe in order to ensure that no accidents can occur. One of the most important things that a large crane uses is anelectromagnetic brake. These are the type of brakes that are used in all situations where heavy loadshave to be accelerated and slowed down over a very short time scale. An electromagnetic brake has to be calibrated in order to provide the required torque, which in turn will depend upon the operating conditions and load capacity. The brakes need to be monitored and inspected for wear and tear, and they also generate heat, so it is necessary to control operating temperatures. As you might guess, they need regular maintenance in order to produce peak performance.
