A joint celebration of Vishu and Baisakhi ! Bridging traditions. That is the theme of this North meets South cultural event aimed at bringing together the multi-cultural and diverse Indian population in Dubai, using music as a medium to connect. A not-for-profit event, the show focuses on promoting the varied branches of Indian music, spanning Carnatic classical and Hindustani light, while providing a platform for debut artistes to share the stage with seasoned music professionals. The show will introduce the soulful AjinkyaPusalkar, presenting the Hindustani light form of music including ghazals, light film songs and semi-classical renditions, alongside Dr. SreevalsanMenon, a Carnatic music scholar and vocalist, who has performed live in multiple cities across the globe. SreevalsanMenon Dr. Sreevalsan J. Menon is an Indian Carnatic vocalist and a music composer hailing from Kerala. After initial training under Rajalakshmi Krishnan (disciple of ChembaiVaidyanathaBhagavathar) and violinist T.V. Ramani at Thrissur, he had much of his advanced tutelage under the late NeyyattinkaraVasudevan. Sreevalsan is an 'A' grade artist of All India Radio and has given concerts all over the country including the National Concerts of AIR and Doordarshan. He has received several awards including Kerala SangeethaNatakaAkademi Award 2013,[2] from the Madras Music Academy, and a title from Krishna GanaSabha, also in Chennai, besides such institutions of repute in the Deccan. He has also participated in Music Transcends, a symphony held at Washington DC in 2004, integrating Western and Indian classical music. His jugalbandis with Hindustani vocalist Ramesh Narayan and late Kathakali musicians KalamandalamSankaranEmbranthiri and KalamandalamHyderali have been widely appreciated. Sreevalsan's music albums are fresh and innovative. They include Vanaprastham, a musical interpretation of the famous short story by M.T. Vasudevan Nair; Monsoon Anuraga a musical experience on monsoon rains. Vismaya, a fantasy video album featuring Artist Namboodiri, M T Vasudevan Nair and Sreevalsan himself. He has given Carnatic vocal performances and lecture demonstrations throughout India, the Middle East, UK, US, Canada and Africa. Currently, he works as Associate Professor at the Kerala Agricultural University in Thrissur, and is a Ph D in Agricultural Extension from IARI, New Delhi. (He earned his doctorate with research on the social impact of rubber cultivation.) A native of Kunissery in Palakkad district, Sreevalsan currently lives in the temple town of Tripunithura off Kochi. Sreevalsan's 2 songs ( "I Be Here" & "I Have Secrets") and background score for Saint Dracula has been qualified for songs and original score categories of 85th academy awards. Artist profile
AjinkyaPusalkar AjinkyaPusalkar is a professional singer and musician hailing from Pune, Maharashtra. He has trained in Hindustani classical and contemporary music under the direct tutelage of Shri Suresh Wadkar, a renowned name in the Hindi and Marathi film industry. After completing his Chemical Engineering, Ajinkya joined the Ajivasan Music Academy where he spent 5 years acquiring a wealth of knowledge and skills, both in Hindustani classical vocal as well as instrumental music, directly from his guru, Shri Suresh Wadkar and his mentor, ShrimatiPremVasant, daughter of AcharyaJialalVasant, a veteran music scholar and founder of the Ajivasan music school. Subsequently Ajinkya took on a teaching role at the Ajivasan Music Academy in Dubai in 2012, successfully organizing and performing in various cultural music shows across the city. Artist profile A powerhouse of talent, Ajinkya is at equal ease with a harmonium, a guitar, a sitar as well as a piano. Ajinkya's singing versatility is evident in his performances, ranging from pure classical renditions to ghazals, marathibhav-geet, retro and contemporary film songs as well as devotional music, all bearing his signature soulful expression. Ajinkya’s music style is a refreshing amalgam of the old and the new, reflecting his passion for innovation and fusion, while maintaining a meticulous focus on melody. His singing possesses a free-flowing intensity and an experimental approach, structured within the boundaries of his classical training. He currently resides in Mumbai, where he returned to further enhance his music capabilities. Keenly working towards pursuing a career in the Indian music industry, he is presently working on his debut solo album, with all songs composed and sung by him, scheduled for release in the near future.
