  1. Improving Lesson Plans Using New Technology Ideas Yvette Johnson LEM 511 Summer Session 2008 Mrs. Carolyn Starkey, Professor

  2. Lesson Plans Writing lesson plans does not have to be difficult. This is the time that a teacher can show their creativity. Most counties in Alabama require teachers to use a certain type of software format. In the state of Alabama, we are required to use STIClassroom. Integrating these new ideas must include the standards that are required by the state of Alabama. They also must include the research based information provided by ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards NETS . What does the state and Nets require of a teacher’s approach to writing and implementing a successful lesson plan?

  3. Alabama Standards Must meet the standards of the State of Alabama Educational Department. Let’s take a look at those standards. Teacher Technology Standards/Colleges of Education

  4. NETS Nationally ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards NETS have served as a roadmap for improved teaching and learning by educators throughout the United States. The standards, used in every U.S. state and many countries, are credited with significantly influencing expectations for students and creating a target of excellence relating to technology. In 2006, ISTE began work on the next generation of NETS for Students, which focuses more on skills and expertise and less on tools. Specifically, they address: Creativity and Innovation Communication and Collaboration Research and Information Fluency Critical thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Digital Citizenship Technology Operations and Concepts

  5. NETS in Alabama • The National Educational Technology Standards for Students produced by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has established technology literacy as a national goal, and it continues to be a goal for Alabama students. • Technology literacy enables students to use technology processes and products in everyday life to make informed decisions. • A solid foundation in technology helps to develop and strengthen many of the skills that students use daily such as solving problems creatively, thinking critically, and working cooperatively in teams. • The technologically literate person is more likely to face the challenges of a dynamic global society with confidence.

  6. Why? Have you been hesitating to introduce technology into your classroom because you think your tech-savvy students know so much more than you do? Today’s the day to conquer that fear with some easy lessons that even a newbie can teach -- and learn from! Included: Five lessons for teaching -- and learning -- about using technology in the classroom.

  7. How do you go about including these ideas into your lesson plan? Here is an example of a lesson plan that was done by a Library Media Specialist. EDT576lessonplanformat.doc In this plan she has included a blog, a wiki, a podcasting, and assistive technology. There was also reference in the plan to use a particular software (Kidspiration).

  8. Technology Ideas to Consider In the example, the LMS included the following ideas. Let’s explore how she used them in her lesson. Blogs Wikis Podcast Assistive Technology Software Evaluation

  9. Blogs In Mrs. Johnson’s lesson, she created a blog using a free website named blogger.com. In this demonstration, she walked her teachers through using the blog assignment in their classes. She used a program called Camtasia. This program was purchased by the LMS so that other teachers may try it and use it in their classes. The teachers were able to use this tutorial session towards professional development hours.
