God’s call to Abram ushered in a new period in God’s dealing with humans. • God chose and called Abram – 12:1 • God’s call was a hard call! • Abram’s obedient response – 12v31 What convinced Abram to respond positively to God? • He realised the authority God. Acts 7v2 • He believed the promises of God. • 12v2 – ‘I will make you a great nation!’ • 12v2 – ‘I will make your name truly great!’. • 12v3 – ‘I myself will look after you and bless you.’

We too have wonderful promises: • Promise of greater purpose • ‘I will make you fishers of men’. • ‘You will be my witnesses …’ • ‘In order that you … might be for the praise of his glory’ • Promise of Personal protection and care. • We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. Romans 8:28
