Professional Development • Search Committee Members Participated in Implicit Bias Training by Dr. Kimberly Papillon • Two Equity Retreats Held in 2016: • To broaden understanding of implicit bias • To create a structure through which the college can systematically review its practices and policies to ensure equity • PADEI Revitalized: • New Leadership • Day-Long Cultural Competency Training Offered Spring 2017 Flex Week • Professional Development Offerings Grew in 2016-17 (32): • To leverage the student equity and AtD work through building a greater understanding of diverse populations • DEq Committee Renamed DEqCC (Diversity, Equity and Cultural Competency) Committee: • Charged to create and implement programming to enhance culturally relevant teaching and learning Board’s Goal on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Hiring Practices • EEO Plan Updated Regularly: • Employee demographic is slightly more diverse than the community served by the college and also reflects the student body • EEO Data Shows: • Rather than eliminating diversity through the screening and interviewing process, the college is now enriching for diversity through the hiring process. The result? Increased diversity in those hired! • Of the 32 faculty hired in the last two years, 47% are ethnically diverse • Fall 2016, the district engaged faculty, in partnership with human resources and administrators, in making improvements to the recruitment and selection process with a strong, equity-minded focus. • Changes were made to: • recruitment materials • application materials related to diversity • the selection process • Proposed changes to the travel reimbursement procedures for applicants Board’s Goal on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
