NOVA Specialty Access Northern Virginia Health Services Coalition A project of the Northern Virginia Health Services Coalition (NOVAHSC) aimed to increase the quality of healthcare by successfully placing patients with specialty appointments NOVAHSC is a group of clinics working together to provide health care services to low income, uninsured people of Northern Virginia For more information visit www.novaclinics.org

    4. Who Does It Serve? What Individuals? What Areas? Uninsured individuals at or below 200% of the federal poverty level seen by NOVAHSC clinics The federal poverty level for 2011 is $22,350 for a family of four City of Alexandria Fairfax County City of Fairfax Arlington County Prince William County Loudoun County Manassas Manassas Park City of Falls Church

    5. How Does It Work? Specialty care providers volunteer their time and services to see qualified patients within the coverage area Providers see patients at the level they choose; it is their decision how many and how often they receive referrals NOVA Specialty Access serves as the link between area safety net clinics and specialty care physicians to ensure low income, uninsured patients get the care they need Patients are screened and referred to specialists by participating area safety net clinics NOVSHSC clinics provide support for pharmaceuticals and ancillary services

    6. Recruitment of specialty care physicians is focused, but not limited to, those most requested areas of need. Including: Physical Therapy, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Urology, Neurology, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Nephrology, Surgery, Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Infectious Disease What Specialties Are Needed?

    7. Members of the NOVA Specialty Access Council support the program through advocacy and physician recruitment Members of the Operations Committee are a part of NOVAHSC and tend to oversight and approval of the project The Program Manager is responsible for the direct administration and day to day operations of the project The Appointment Specialist serves as the primary liaison between the clinics and physicians’ offices Governance

Specialist Benefits NOVA Specialty Access provides an organized and streamlined manner to serve the community You serve on your terms; the number and frequency of patients seen is left entirely up to you Since patients are screened prior to referrals, specialists know that all patients fit the criteria specified by NOVAHSC You receive a tax credit for your service All volunteer physicians are covered under the Virginia Department of Risk You receive a recognition plaque for participation You will be invited to attend the annual awards banquet

    14. Communication Based on your chosen frequency of appointments, NOVA Specialty Access will call to schedule appointments The clinic provides requested documentation You fax the information from the visit directly to the clinic
