  1. Monthly Journal Reflection September 2013 (Press space bar every time you’re ready to go to the next thing)

  2. Mentor This month I found a mentor that could help me improve and achieve my goal on playing the violin for my 8th grade project this year. I was able to ask Ms. Espey if she would agree with doing so. She said that she’s willing to. So far, we haven’t met since then, but we are going to talk about when and how often to meet very soon. We plan to meet either on Monday Or Friday mornings every week. I want to be able to shift in higher positions, learn vibrato, and have a better bow stroke for a more pleasant sound. I’m also playing a concert at the Hunter’s Glen movie night on September 27th. We are doing the songs “A Modal Festival,” “The Tempest,” and “Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space.”

  3. Orchestra Concert I wasn’t able to post a video of our concert on PowerPoint, so it’s on weebly. Please go to the button that says video to watch it. :) Here is a picture of me about to play at the Hunter’s Glen Concert. The concert turned out great and people said we looked professional.

  4. Progress This Month This month, I have gotten to be a much better shifter. I can now glide up and down more relaxed easily. In “The Tempest,” I was able to shift into third and fourth position. That’s a huge step up for me considering I just started it. My vibrato exercises have went up a speed, which means getting seconds faster, but that’s not much to work with yet. Mrs. Silvas has told me that my bowing has improved a lot. I used to go diagonally a little bit on the tip of the bow sometimes. My sound quality has gotten better as well this month. I hope to get more done next month though.

  5. Goals Next month I plan to improve a lot more on vibrato. This is because I barely improved on any of it this month. I also plan to learn some new songs, and start doing some sight reading. I used to be very bad at sight reading. Sight reading is when you try to play a piece of music for the first time without practice. I have improved since then, but I want to do some more work in this area. When we go to the CHSAA festival again this year, I’ll be ready this time. Last of all, I would like to work a little more on double stops. They’re pretty easy, but I want to make sure I can do them well enough before moving on.
