NA World ServicesVision Statement All of the efforts of Narcotics Anonymous World Services are inspired by the primary purpose of the groups we serve. Upon this common ground we stand committed. Our vision is that one day: • Every addict in the world has the chance to experience our message in his or her own language and culture and find the opportunity for a new way of life;
NA communities worldwide and NA world services work together in a spirit of unity and cooperation to carry our message of recovery; • Narcotics Anonymous has universal recognition and respect as a viable program of recovery. As our commonly held sense of the highest aspirations that set our course, our vision is our touchstone, our reference point, inspiring all that we do. Building Relationships • When you take on a commitment, pick your replacement • The difference between Public Information and Public Relations is the difference between a one night stand and a long term relationship
Sponsorship Behind the Walls • If NA can’t respond to incarcerated people’s desire for sponsorship, they may look to other fellowship • Discussion of traditions that come into play
Fellowship Development • Simon- UK & George- Philippines discussed their own experiences in helping grow the NA fellowship in their regions • Group discussion of what groups and communities are not being reached and how we can better reach them. • Be proactive rather than reactive • Give groups permission to go for it, encourage.
Fellowship Development • Some regions use a regional outreach person/ committee • Move ASC or RSC to places not having their needs met. • Active GSRs = an informed fellowship!
Technology • Eric- HI and Maryellen- CA • How does the NA fellowship adapt to address new technologies? • Small group discussions about provided scenarios that involved personal web pages, electronic monitoring, and outside organization websites. • Identifying lack of knowledge in situation and application of traditions to find solutions
Hospitals & Institutions Training • Nancy- WA and Doug-CA • Application of educational concepts of volunteer training for H&I trusted servants • The brain can only absorb what the butt can tolerate • Train by modeling, role-play, and actual experience • Small group scenarios
Hospitals & Institutions Training • Anyone with a clear and consistent NA message who is willing to shareis well suited for H&I work • How was your H&I training? • How can training be improved?
Traditions, Concepts, and Service • A thorough understanding of traditions and concepts makes service ,more effective and more rewarding • We’ve all made traditions faux-pas when doing service, and don’t know until someone shares the right way.
Attraction of Service • John- HI • Encourage participation from all voices, not just the big ones. • Nobody spoke unless he/she had the ball
Things that attracted people to service: sponsors, being center of the pack, gratitude, saw needs that weren’t filled, laughter, people stayed clean, learning to be comfortable, be part of a global fellowship Things that didn’t attract people: people who govern, forgetting the newcomer, complainers, setting people up to fail in service, railroading, not following guidelines, resentments Attraction of Service
The PR Handbook • An effective tool for carrying the message • PR presentation materials drawn from the PR Handbook, Resources, and the H&I Handbook • Mock presentations using FAQs from the general public, treatment professionals, and criminal justice professionals
