  2. Language Policy Division Since 1960 : 50th anniversary in 2010 • foreign / second languages : European Cultural Convention, article 2 : member states committed to ensure learning/teaching of each other languages  language learning for communication

Major projects and publications • Threshold level objectives for nearly 30 languages (+ Waystage and Vantage) • CEFR and related tools • General Guide and Case studies • Reference level descriptions • ELP • Manual for Relating language exams to CEFR • Guide for test development • Material illustrating the CEFR levels • …

  4. 2005 : 3th CoE Summit Social cohesion becomes one of the major priorities  access to quality education depends on a good mastery of the language(s) of schooling
