Woodland management in Epping Forest • Epping Forest is an ancient deciduous forest located to the north of London. • The forest has been used since Norman times when it was used for deer hunting. Commoners grazed animals and obtained wood for firewood and building. • It is now very popular with visitors who enjoy walking, riding and fishing. • Epping Forest needs careful management to balance the conservation of ancient trees and wildlife with recreational use.
