  2. Some dates for the near future • M. Albrow – visits CERN on march 8th • P. Landshoff – seminar at CERN march 18th or 19th • DIS 2004 – april 14 - 18, 2004, Poprad, Slovakia …. • CERN/HERA workshop at CERN march 26th -27th Risto convener of diffractive phyiscs section • Rio Workshop – march 31st /april 2nd …. • Physics at LHC, Vienna – july 13th / 17th Mario D./ Fabrizio F. (overlaps with test beam) • IEEE 2004 NS Symposium and MI Conference October 2004, Rome, Italy

  3. TOTEM organization - CB of january 16th • Physics Board: all parts of the collaboration should be represented. Risto Orava is named Physics coordinator. • T2 : Marco Bozzo will coordinate the ongoing activity of design and prototyping for T2 • Technical Board : Marco Oriunno (Technical Coordinator) will be the chairman of a newly formed Technical Board. Member of the new technical Board will be • Daniela Macina (responsible for the contacts with SPS and LHC), • Emilio Radicioni (for the DAQ), • Walter Snoeys (for the electronics) • the Spokesman and Co-spokesman ex-officio. • Walter Snoeys: Electronics coordinator for TOTEM. • Mario Deile : responsibility of the silicon tests in X5 and the SPS and Daniela Macina for the installation in the SPS and contacts with the accelerator. • Elias Noschis will be responsible for documenting and keeping order in the TOTEM Technical Notes.

  4. Test beam weeks in 2004 • 14-21 july in X5: test of “full size” silicon detectors… • Coincides with Vienna… asked ALICE to move by one week to 21-28 july  answer in one month • Parasiting ALICE later means material in beam and low intensity • Period 4-11 august still free from main users. • 11 august: RP installation in SPS (just pots + mechanics, not the detectors)30 august: Silicon detector installation in RPs • 5 october/ 14 october: 08:00 h - 16:00 h: shift in SPS • 2 periods of 8 hours for SPS coast (few extra hours of access in tunnel will be possible/tolerated) • 20-31 october in X5: test of GEM, electronics of CSC and remaining silicon tests (total 7 days with beam with a long MD interruption in the middle)

  5. End of October in X5 • Test of the GEM prototype (more info from Fabio’s talk) • 1 detector equipped with APV R/O a’ la COMPASS • Not all pads equipped (~1/3 of total) • R/O with GeSiCa (COMPASS) • Trigger from external “counters” • DAQ (?) • Support and gas can be provided by Genoa • Test of CSC electronics chain (more info from Marco’s talk): • Test required by INFN • More than one detector equipped with the final chain on both anodes and cathodes • Repeat test of Silicon detectors ? • Possible if necessary…
