Social Media Definition Social media are works of user-created video, audio, text or multimedia that are published and shared in a social environment, such as a blog, wiki or video hosting site. Social media are various activities that integrate words, images, video audio with technology and user social interaction. According to Wikipedia social media is the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers to content producers. 4

Social networking A social network is a social structure composed of individuals or organizations who share common interests and activities. Members are associated by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interests, careers, financial exchange, dislikes, relationships, beliefs, knowledge etc. Social network user profiles typically include having profiles, friends / social links, blog posts, widgets and something unique to the social networking website. The net generation The Net Generation born between 1977 and 1997 are the largest generation ever and will represent almost half of the workforce by 2014. This generation believes it is “cool to be smart”. They see themselves as part of the future success of the workplace.
