2012 NFHS Football Rule 3. Periods, Time Factors, and Substitutions (7 Sections). Section 1 – Length of Periods. Varsity – 12 minute quarters. Halftime – 17 minutes plus 3 minute warm-up time. Timeouts – 1 minute with whistle at 45 seconds. Section 1 – Length of Periods.
