  1. Presentation These are my notes from the presentation video analysis of Frozen.

  2. Titles • The title of the main film uses a very sharp and pointy looking font which could be associated with icicles and frozen objects. • The titles are very simple • There is a contrast between the black background and the white font. • The font looks formal and very basic • The titles show the names of the film production companies and distributers • The titles may have been done separately from the film so attention is not drawn away when the film starts. • I think the titles could have been made better if it gave the audience a clue of what the film is about

  3. Narrative • From the title of the film “Frozen” and the emphasised function of ski slopes it automatically suggests that there is something to do with freezing and danger. • The first thing we see when analysing mise en scene is emphasis on the way a ski lift works, so obviously this plays a major part in the film. • Close-ups are used for all the ski lift parts to emphasise how they work and may suggest there may be a problem with the function of the ski lift. • The sound which is heard is a screeching sound this is diegetic sound and matches the action on screen but also could be associated with a human scream and could be a hint of what is to come.

  4. Narrative • After the close-ups of the ski lift, a long shot and aerial shot are seen which shows the setting of the film, we automatically associate the setting with the title of the film “Frozen”

  5. Characters • After the setting of the film is shown, a medium shot is used to introduce the three main characters of the film. • The three characters are all wearing skiing outfits which matches the setting of the film. • Available light is used during the introduction of the characters to make the scene appear natural and realistic. • Sound which is heard when the characters are introduced are their own dialogue, people talking in the background and faded music playing in the background. • This is all diegetic sound which may have been used to create a more realistic atmosphere.

  6. Genre Conventions • There are a couple of thriller conventions which are present: • Uncertainty because viewers at this point are uncertain of what to expect, a lot of the information has been kept back so the viewers know nothing about the characters or where the location is. • The characters are common thriller movie characters, they are ordinary people which appear to have been drawn to danger by accident. • Iconography is used as there is tension building sounds of the operational ski lifts, it emphasises the lifts and may suggest they will play a vital role in the film. • Emphasis on dialogue is also iconography used in the film, as when the characters are speaking you can hear very quiet background sounds which makes their dialogue stand out.

  7. The opening sequence tries to grab the audiences attention by using a lot of close-ups to emphasise aspects of the film which the audience will remember. • The opening sequence sets you up to think about what will happen in the film by using a wide variety of media techniques such as: camera shots, editing, sound and mise en scene.
